Singers and Composers School

Once a year The Australian Voices opens its doors to young singers and emerging composers aged between 15 and 25 from all around the country to experiment, learn, discuss and socialise in a dynamic and friendly atmosphere. The week revolves around writing, workshopping, experimenting and refining your musical ideas, and features masterclasses from choral and instrumental professionals. The week of workshops will culminate in an informal concert, presenting some of the compositions to family, friends and colleagues. Compositions from past schools have landed in The Australian Voices permanent repertoire, and participants have even joined the ranks of commissioned composers in subsequent years!

By participating as a composer you will attend a daily composition workshop (10:30am – 6:00pm). Each day a theme will be set, and a guest composer will attend to offer mentoring, tuition and fresh ideas. You will be encouraged to compose a new piece every day. The Australian Voices will then rehearse and workshop your piece. In the evening you will participate in the singers workshop on general Australian repertoire.

By participating as a singer you will become a temporary member of The Australian Voices, attending a three-hour rehearsal (6:00pm – 9:00pm) on Australian repertoire. You will work on important musical skills such as vowel-alignment, intonation and sight-reading.

WHEN: Tuesday 26 April - Saturday 30 April 2011 between the hours of 10:30am and 9:00pm

COST FOR SINGERS: $250 (GST inclusive) and includes all singers workshops and presentations. Host accommodation can be arranged.

COST FOR COMPOSERS: $500 (GST inclusive) and includes all composers workshops and presentations. Host accommodation can be arranged.
